JUST how safe are the streets of Rugby at this moment in time? It's a question I have to ask following the latest street robberies in the town.

This week two men, who it seems were being gentlemen and escorting a female friend home at night, were attacked and robbed.

And then just days later a man was robbed while walking along the Black Path late at night.

This all comes of course
after the tragic death of Paul Smith, who was hit over the head and robbed while he walked home after a night in town.
When I first came to Rugby many moons ago the town certainly felt a lot safer then it does now.

It's got to the stage where even a big, burly man like myself has to think twice about walking home on his own late at night.

I don't know what has changed to cause this situation here or whether it's just a general reflection of society right now.

It could even be that more people are turning to crime during the harsh economic times that we are experiencing right now.

But it worries me. And having spoken to several people in the town about the issue they are worried too.

I just hope the situation doesn't reach a point whereby people become too scared to go out and have a good time.

Because that doesn't benefit anybody. But right now something needs to be done to make sure that scenario does not become reality.

But quite what the solution is I don't know. Any ideas?

I was stunned to hear about hairdresser Martin Cole breaking his leg in the recent New York Marathon.

This must have been an excruciatingly painful episode and I would like to wish him a speedy recovery.
