I think I might move to Swindon - there is obviously a clear thinking council operating there!

Swindon council has apparently decided to cut £400,000 funding for speed cameras which of course have been labelled as simply revenue earners rather than a road safety feature.

It has always been alleged that speed cameras are only positioned in places where there are serious concerns for road safety - clearly though, in Rugby, that is tosh.

How many accidents were there on the Dunchurch Road before that one was installed? And the only major accident on Hillmorton Road in recent years to 'justify' the two along there, involved a solitary police car travelling at such speed that it took off over the old railway bridge
and landed on its roof!

The permanent speed camera on the Dunchurch Road and the regular temporary one at Butler's Leap, being close to steep hills are clearly designed to catch motorists failing to brake sufficiently, rather that purposely speeding.

If speed cameras were needed, and I'm not sure they are, they could at least be positioned where there is a real need and a real danger. What about Ashlawn Road/Onley Lane/Barby Lane area, which really needs a roundabout, or Leicester Road near Junction One and Elliott's Field?

But why worry, there are so many roadworks and repairs that no traffic in Rugby can get up any speed.

Look at our new Roadworks and traffic hot spot checker on our website.

Let us know what you think of it.

In view of the current shambolic state of the roadworks in Rugby I was so pleased to log on and view your map pin pointing the 'beware' areas. I logged on the following day and have ever since and I was delighted to see this is being updated daily.....how refreshing something in Rugby that works.

Thank you kindly Mr Editor
