The plan to close Rugby Railway Station every weekend between May and December is intolerable.

I would guess the people who use the trains at the weekends are completely different from those that use it during the week, but simply because the number is slightly less, it is those who would use it for a weekend break in London, or to go to a show at the weekend, who are the ones that must suffer. I think Network Rail should think again and find a better plan.

Plainly the work has to be done, but surely, a halved service, say, in the day, with closure and most of the work going on during the night, has to be more acceptable and reasonable... and this could go on through the week rather than just at the weekends.

I guess it might be more costly, but bearing in mind that Network Rail has already had to swallow a £14million fine for the farce at Christmas and New Year, I would have thought it would be more effective.

There is also the lost revenue to take into account
The impact of the weekend closures will be felt through what can be regarded as Rugby's extensive hinterland.

It is a joke, by the way, that people are going to pay train prices and then accept being ferried around in coaches. I certainly wouldn't use this 'service' if I was a weekend tripper. Come on guys it simply isn't going to happen.

And anyway, why on earth are they thinking of bussing to Northampton. No-one wants to go there for the weekend!

The suggestion that people will resort to the car is a likely reality... even if it is only to go further afield to a rail line that will take them to London, Market Harborough or Banbury for example.

But that is unacceptable and the closure plan should be resisted. I would urge Office of Rail Regulation not to just take the easy, and possibly cheaper, option... and think more about the customer, who remains, long suffering.
