A RENOWNED musician is returning to Rugby to kick-off this year's programme of folk concerts.

Steve Knightley will be performing at Lawrence Sheriff Hall in Clifton Road on Friday, February 20 as part of the Rugby Roots folk music events.

Steve is well-known for his work with Phil Beer, as award winning duo Show of Hands.

His passionate melodic songs are steeped in his native Wessex landscape, often chronicling the darker sides of country life, but with an instinct for poetry.

Steve is also a virtuoso multi-instrumentalist, whose playing skills combine Celtic, Indian and South American forms with contemporary acoustic rock.

Hot on the heels of Show Of Hands' hectic touring schedule during 2008 Steve takes to the road for a solo tour featuring songs from his 2007 solo album 'Cruel River' and his 1999 release 'Track of Words' which is being re-released for the tour.

Steve's protégé, North Devon based young singer-songwriter Jenna will join him for part of his set and also present some of her own material.

With a startlingly mature voice, Jenna, who performed in Rugby back in 2004 along with Steve Knightley and Seth Lakeman, is undoubtedly one of
the brightest prospects on the folk/roots music scene.

In her songs she captures the rugged beauty of her native North Devonshire coastline, accompanying herself on piano and guitar. At the tender age of 20 Jenna already has a wealth of recording and touring experience behind her and a bright future ahead.

Her debut album 'Barefoot and Eager' won well deserved acclaim. Her follow-up album will be released shortly and Jenna will be performing a selection of songs from both albums at the Rugby concert.

Richard Barnes of Rugby Roots said: "Steve is a good friend of ours and has played here several times, both with Show Of Hands, solo, with Martyn Joseph and with Seth and Jenna.

"Show Of Hands' concert here in September 2008 was a huge success and it's great to have Steve back to open our 2009 season."

Tickets for the concert are £14 and are available from Sounds music shop in Church Street, Rugby, by calling Rugby Roots on (01788) 567338 or online from www.rugbyroots.com.
