THOUSANDS of people packed Whitehall Recreation ground to enjoy Rugby's annual Spring Fair on Bank Holiday Monday.

And organisers said they exceeded their target of raising £10,000 for local charities from the event.

Onlookers were treated to live performances of Irish dancing, intercultural drumming, dancing, dog handling and junior football.
Rugby band Dukes Jetty finished off the day with live music.

This year's event was organised by the Rugby Dunsmore Rotary Club and the Rugby Webb Ellis Round Table, and sponsored by Peugeot.

Mike Folley, treasurer for the Rugby Dunsmore Rotary Club, said the hot weather helped pull in the crowds.

He added: "It was an absolutely fantastic.

"We had 60 different stalls from charities to businesses and The Merchant's Inn beer tent ran out three times.

"The day was about giving people a good day out and giving charities a chance to raise money for themselves.

"We aimed to get to £10,000 and we have surpassed all our expectations."

He said about 8,000 people attended the Spring Fair, which also included many fairground rides.
