RUGBY will be the safest, cleanest and friendliest town in Warwickshire in the next five years, according to a new report.
A plan, called the 20:20 Vision, has been created to outline how the Rugby borough is going to develop over the next decade, showing overall a town that encourages more people to work, shop and be entertained in it.

The plan, which has been create
d by a partnership of Rugby Borough Council (RBC), Rugby First and Warwickshire County Council (WCC), aims to deliver a town centre which is the safest, cleanest and friendliest in Warwickshire.

Cllr. Craig Humphrey, leader of RBC, said: “The 20:20 Vision is an exciting step forward for Rugby.

“It details just how we see the town and borough developing over the next few years - and will hopefully see the town centre develop into an even more vibrant and accessible place for both residents and visitors to come.

“My partners and I are really proud of this new vision for our future.”

The vision is based upon the fact that Rugby will be dramatically growing over the next 16 years, with a planned 11,000 new homes, 400,000 sq ft of retail and 108 hectares of employment land being developed.

It will be used to map out the future of Rugby and to highlight to developers, government agencies, local businesses and Rugby residents how the town is set to develop and how the goals will be achieved.

Robin Richter, of Rugby First, said: “This document gives us a long-term vision to aim for in the future. It’s always good to have a plan to work to. It’s a guiding light for us all.”

20:20 Vision shows how the borough will develop over the next few years, highlighting the benefits of recent developments and includes an emerging cafe society, and rising number of quality independent retailers. The report also highlights the improvement in transport in and around the town centre so people will be less reliant on private transport.

Cllr. Chris Saint, portfolio holder for leisure, culture and housing at WCC, said: “Rugby has a unique identity and we need to exploit that to benefit the local community as well as attract the spending power of visitors to the town.

“We are in a good place to achieve the Vision with active partners working together.”
