A DUNCHURCH councillor who campaigned for road improvements saw his prophecy of a serious accident come true - two hours after being elected.

Conservative Howard Roberts was elected for Dunchurch and Kinghtlow following the local elections last Thursday. After returning to his home in Daventry Road Mr. Roberts 'heard a loud bang' and rushed outside to see two cars had hit a parked vehicle.

Cllr. Roberts said: "This happened literally two hours after being elected. Nobody was injured but it was a nasty smash.

"I had predicted that something like this would happen for a while because there have been so many near misses in the past. The road is always full of parked cars and there are certain points where it is difficult for drivers to see what's coming round corners."

Cllr. Roberts added that he would be meeting with Highways officials from Warwickshire County Council this week to discuss possible solutions.

"We need to work out what can be done and quickly. Whether it be double yellow lines, traffic controls or installing chicanes," he added.

"Unless a solution is found quickly for the parking issue on Daventry Road there will be more accidents. Lives are at risk if nothing is done."
