A BURGLAR posing as a workman stole over £1,000 from an elderly people's home in Rugby.

The man called at the home of the 80-year-old woman in Clifton shortly before 6pm on Friday, May 9.

He told the woman that he needed to check her gas and electricity.

After speaking to her for a short while he asked her to empty the cupboard out so he could look more closely at the meters, and left the
house saying he would be back.

The woman then found that someone had been upstairs in her house, searched all the rooms and stolen more than £1,000.

He is described as white, aged in his 20s with dark hair and was wearing a t-shirt and trousers.

Anyone with information on the incident should contact Rugby Police on (01788) 541111 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
