THE FAMILY at the centre of a national fiasco over their right to live a greener life in their own garden have been allowed to stay at their home - for now.

Today (Wednesday) was the day that council officers were meant to visit the family home of the Hodgetts and Everitt in Churchover, having threatened them with eviction for breaching pet laws.

But the officers cancelled at the last minute.

The family currently have 25 chickens in their back garden, which provide eggs and eat kitchen and household waste.

In turn the chickens provide manure for the fruit and vegetable patch.

But Rugby Borough Council - who is urging residents to recycle more - said this is in breach of its tenancy regulations.

Michelle Hodgetts had feared that the council would evict her family today (Wednesday).

But their no show means they can stay on for a bit longer while negotiations continue.

It is nor clear why the officers changed their plans, but it is believed to be related to the mass media attention the story has received across the country since we reported it last week.
