I'M no flasher - that's the response of a Rugby man accused of the act as he walked naked through Newbold.

In last week's Advertiser we published a woman's account of how she encountered a naked rambler on the Oxford canal towpath.

In the article, she described her disgust at the man's actions and how she called the police to apprehend him.

But th
is week the man in question contacted the Advertiser to give his side of the story.

The man, who asked not to be named, said: "I'm disappointed by her reaction - I wasn't doing anything wrong and I certainly wasn't flashing.

"This woman was very irate with me but I calmly tried to explain to her that I wasn't committing any sort of offence.

"In my understanding of the law, you're only offending if you're naked and being indecent.

"But anyone who knows me knows I wouldn't hurt a fly. I was simply doing something that I enjoy and trying to spread a little happiness."

The man added that he has previously walked naked through the Rugby area and is often met with positive reaction.

"People have often met me on walks and stopped to talk with me - they're not concerned about my lack of clothing," he added.

"I'll often stop and joke with them. They'll say something like 'I hope it doesn't rain' and I'll answer 'don't worry my costume's water-proof.

"In general people are pleasant with me. That's why I intend to carry on doing it regardless of what people think."

"YES, MATE, WE FIND YOUR BEHAVIOUR TO BE VERY OFFENSIVE!!!"

Who's 'we'? I don't. And here's a solution for you: just don't bother being offended. There's no reason to be, after all.

"he should keep his bits out of the sight of decent people."

Why? What harm has he done? And what harm do you think would be done to your daughters if they saw him?

It seems to me utterly bizarre that someone (anyone?) can get so upset over the sight of another human being. This thing that some onlookers have about so called “privates” and keeping their daughters from seeing such “filth” strikes me that it is they who have a “thing” about nudity and so need to be protecting from their own thoughts. It’s the decent people who are happy and free to be naked who need to be protected from these people who become angered or upset by nudity.

Approximately half the world's population is male, the other half female. That means that any one of us looks like half the people in the world, and has a pretty good idea of what the other half look like as well. What's the problem? What don't you like about the human body, Black Knight and Kimby? Of all the things going on in the world around us, why do you feel the need to get so exercised about the sight of your fellow human beings?

I find your reaction to nudity revolting, and I take offence at being called an exhibitionist simply because I enjoy clothes freedom, and in a world where murder, corruption and sexual assaults are a daily occurrence these silly people get uptight about simple nudity.
Get a life!

Black Knight wrote: "We brought up our kids not to see adult nakedness, not that this selfish and somewhat disturbed individual would care about that. People like him make me want to throw up."

It sounds like you are attempting to ensure that your kids grow up with the same irrational fear of human skin as you display - great parenting, well done.

It is always difficult to challenge your own pre-conceptions, but why don't you try just thinking about what harm is caused by the sight of a naked body? Think hard and logically and perhaps you will eventually realise how irrational your reaction to this is. You owe it to your kids to think before forcing your own foibles on them and you will earn far more respect from them in the end if you teach them to think for themselves, rather than training them to behave like one of Pavlov's dogs.
