M6 closed near Rugby after tanker collision

A TANKER carrying sand has turned over after a crash near Rugby, closing the M6.


The driver has been taken to hospital with head injuries after two tankers collided beteen junctions one and two at 7am this morning (Friday).

All roads around the M6 are congested due to diverted traffic.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said "On arrival at the scene, crews found two HGV's that had been in a collision.

"One of the vehicles, a tanker carrying sand had rolled onto its side and was blocking all four lanes of the carriageway.

"The driver of the tanker, a man in his 30's suffered a head in injury and was treated at the scene. The man was transferred to University Hospital Coventry and Warwickshire for further assessment and treatment. The mans injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

"The man driving the second vehicle, a cement lorry, was checked over at the scene by ambulance crews but did not require hospital treatment.
