THIS simple child's toy could be the answer behind Rugby's mysterious lights in the sky.

Following last week's story about strange lights flying around the town, we had dozens of calls and emails from residents who have spotted more unexplained objects in the nightsky.

Air traffic control officials may be at a loss to explain what has been flying around, but many callers believe they know the answer - Chinese lanterns!

Although many still dispute this and claim they are UFOs, some residents called in to say they have been releasing the lanterns into the sky over the past few weekends.

The lights can go up to a great height very quickly.

"We set them off for the kids - they love them," said Karen Redford from Langdale Close, Brownsover.

"I am sure they are the lights that people have been reporting. It seems to have caused quite a stir!"

Many others agree with her and have claimed they let off the same lanterns too.

The objects move across the sky in a staggered formation - like the reports we received in the last two weeks.

A few people called to say that one of the bright orange lights shaped like a cylinder came down in the town centre behind the RMC offices opposite the Town Hall on Sunday night.

Adrian Wilkins managed to record the lights on video as they came past his home in Brownsover.

Like many other callers, he believes that the lights cannot be lanterns.

But another resident said he viewed the objects through binoculars - and saw Chinese writing and burners on the object.

Sightings have also been reported in Stratford, Warwick and Leamington.

l Thank you to everyone who took the time to call and email us about the lights. Please continue to send in pictures and your theories about the lights by emailing philip.hibble@rugbyadvertiser.co.uk

On saturday 15th September at approximately 8.50pm my husband and I saw a trail of these orange lights in the sky. They were very bright and also extremely high up and moving at considerable speed, also they were all in perfect formation and spaced equally apart. If they were these chinese lanterns surely they would slowly drift across the sky and would'nt be able to stay in line. Not sure what they were but they were'nt balloons!
