A SHOCKED villager opened his front door to find £2.5million worth of cocaine sitting on his doorstep.

The resident from Birdinbury rang the police who recovered 52 kilos of the Class A drug.

After an investigation, they arrested and charged Hassan Ceesay, who has pleaded guilty.

The 47-year-old from South East London will remain in custody until a sentencing date can be fixed.

A police spokesperson said: "A resident of Birdingbury contacted police at 3.45 pm on May 1, to report that three cardboard boxes had been left outside his house and he was suspicious of their contents.

"Police went to the house and discovered a large quantity of drugs, namely cocaine, on the man's driveway.

"A further box was located nearby and the street value of the total amount of drugs recovered is approximately two and a half million pounds. The drugs were taken to a secure location outside of Warwickshire.

"Police immediately launched an investigation to locate the person who had abandoned the boxes and at 6.15 pm on May 1, a 47 year old man was taken into custody at Rugby Police station on suspicion of the possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply. The man was arrested in Northamptonshire.

"On Friday May 2, the 47 year old man was charged with possession of controlled drugs with intent to supply."

Police continue to investigate the incident and are liaising with the Metropolitan Police as the enquiry continues.
