Warwickshire Cricket League Division 2
Rugby v Ambleside
Rugby CC 160 all out (3 pts) lost to Ambleside CC 162 for 3 (20 pts)
Rugby's batting again let them down in an important match against fellow Division 2 strugglers Ambleside. The town made a good start despite losing the luckless Lee James for 6, and after 18 overs were 56 for 1.
However, a freakish catch saw off skipper Steve Hurt for 16, and Alex Smith was soon caught behind for 27. Mo Sadiq (17), Darren Wesson (18) and Keith Bradbury (15) all got in and got themselves out, and only a plucky stand of 36 between Alan Milsom (20 not out) and Javed Jiwaji (18) made the score respectable. All credit to Ambleside's Dave Barnett for his 25 over spell in which he took 8 for 71.
Rugby fought hard in the field, with Alan Milsom (9-3-19-0), Matt Hinks (13-4-32-1) and Mo Sadiq (13-3-45-1) bowling tight spells, but a quickfire 46 from Ambleside veteran Phil Read (46 not out) sealed the win in the 44th over.
