Tandem victory for Ives and Hackley
Breaking new ground
Team Boss Mick Ives (Baginton), turned the clock back 17 yrs to his last race, when he competed on his Tandem in the Worcester 10 ml Time Trial on Saturday, partnered with fellow Team Endura--Thule--24/7 Team mate Martin Hackley (Dunchurch).
Hackley, riding his first ever Tandem event, to win the event on the tough course based at Severn Stoke in a time of 23 mins 40 secs, winning by over 3 1/2 mins. Next Saturday Ives teams up with another team mate--Tony Taylor in the Leamington C and AC event.
Leamington's 'Spring Chicken 74 year old John Bevan won the individual Race on standard with an actual time of 25 mins 23 secs , giving him a plus of 7 mins 55 secs--another great ride.
On Sunday, Jonathan Griffin secured a very close 2nd position in the 55ml Independence Road Race,Nr Lulworth Cove --Dorset--the finish was at the top of a 1 1/2 ml climb
Mick Ives (Baginton) finished 3rd in the 44 ml race for riders 65-69, and Les Liddiard, finished 4th in 50-54 yr Race.
At Darley Moor Nr Ashbourne Derbyshire, Paul Wain finishe a close 2nd in the 50 ml circuit race with tam mate Rick Lister 9th.

Earlier in the week Lister had finished 4th in theOtley Town centre Criterium race.

John Stevenson, riding for Team Endura-Thule-24/7-M.I.Racing squad-Warwick's leading Road Racing cyclist,was in cracking form at the weekend, when he won the Classic ,'Brendan Chiu' Memorial Race for riders 45-49 yrs, which started and finished in Bridgenorth , Shrops.
The course which is very tough , included the Climb and descent of Clee Hill, coming up the steepest side from Ludlow.(called Angel Bank), and then passing thro the market town of Cleobury Mortimer, before returning on the very hilly route back to Bridgenorth. Stevenson is the current leader in the season long ' Percy Stallard-Spiuk ' National Road Race series, with just 2 more events to go.
Stevenson is quoted as saying, that this event was " the toughest race he has ridden for many seasons, with no flat sections, many very steep clmbs,and hot weather, requiring exceptionaly high standard of fitness and bike handling skill.
