Football: 4v4 fun day

More than 50 children enjoyed hours of footballing fun at Braunston on Sunday as part of the worldwide Give Us Back Our Game campaign in memory of inspirational sportsman Phil Baker who died from a brain tumour last year when he was just 15.
Games have been held all over the world and the local event, organised by Phil's auntie Karen Flockhart and her husband Peter at Daventry Town U9s was a great success.
The four-a-side teams of 8-10 year-olds represented top footballing nations and each pitch was named after a famous stadium such as Wembley and Anfield. Formats for the games differed at each pitch to give children variety, such as having a goal in each corner.
Give Us Back Our Game Founder Paul Cooper thought the event was superb. "They did the campaign and Phil proud," he said. "There was such a good atmosphere and children's voices were always heard above adults, which is what it's all about. I'm hoping it will become an annual event."
Postcards of Ashlawn student Phil and his inspirational story were handed out, explaining his extraordinary courage in arranging his own funeral and attending his wake party.
The day also raised £150 for the Children's Society.
