Rugby Golf Club Seniors Match Report – away Ingon Manor G.C.
Rugby Seniors knew they should expect a hard game when on arrival at Ingon Manor they found the home team practising on the driving range. So it proved to be with Captain John Marshall's game being tight all the way to the finish thanks to good play by partner Dave Ollivant. The pair secured a win when Marshall finally sunk a single putt to win the 18th and win 1 up.
Next out, Tony Kenny played exceptionally well with partner Steve Hibberd to win their match 2-1. With their 14 hdcp opponent completing a near par round Colin Hudson & Gordon French lost 3-2 as did Alan Hipwell & Tony Montriou. Despite good play by Alan Bevan & John Putt they lost 6-5 to some remarkable driving by their 20 plus handicap opponents.
The Ingon player Duncan Watts had a round of 2 birdies and 7 pars to win 5-4 against Den Atwell & Howard Kirk and Mike Riley & Alan Stothard battled hard but went down 2-1. Finally John Heightley & Vernon Evans came home losing 4-3.
A good days golf, in splendid scenery, resulted in Rugby losing 6-2 overall.
Rugby Golf Club Seniors Match Report – Northampton G.C. - home.
When the visiting pair both got birdies on the 1st, Seniors' Captain John Marshall & partner Les Macalister new they had a hard game ahead but with Macalister making a 25 ft put to win the 3rd things looked more promising. With a close match all the way the visitors eventually came home with a 2-1 win.
Next out Mike Riley & Bernard Barker had a good front 9 to be 2 up but the failed to withstand the pressure and finally lost 1 down. Phil Wenlock & Mike O'Neil faired better to win 3-1 and Allan Bevan & Alan Walton fought hard to half their match.
DaveThorpe & Norman Cleaton had a good 3-2 win but despite some good play John Dawson & Mike Rhodes lost 3-2.
Dormie 5 at the 13th Tony Montriou & Des Taylor withstood a fightback to bring home a 3-1 win and finally, strong play by John Andrews with partner John Harris saw a 2-1 win to give an overall victory to Rugby 4 ½ to 3 ½ .
A good win to rugby Seniors in excellent sunny conditions with a light breeze finished off with an delightful clubhouse meal in enjoyable company.

Whitefields Golf Club
Whitefields' Bogey Cup, where players play against the course, saw three players card +2, which basically means 2 under par.
The three were Jim McLellan, Rich Wild and Paul Tierney, who finished in that order. Dave Elliott won the competition by being one better at +3.
Michael Fahey won the May Stableford with 40 points, beating Peter McIntosh 39 and Mike McGrail 35.
Ivor Bourne shot a measly 33 points to take the Midweek from Trevor Marlow, who carded 30.
The May Day Mixed Greensome was won by Isobel Jones and Les Armfield, with 37 points. They were followed in by Phil and Juliet Pennant, who scored 35, with Whitefields' pairing of John Aldridge and Emma Maybury picking up third with 34.
The next Mixed Greensomes is on Monday, May 26 with a shotgun start at 1pm and can be booked on (01788) 815555.

Ullesthorpe Golf ClubDaily Mail Foursomes national competition - second round
Another victory for our Ullesthorpe ladies. Linda Pope and Carole Pickering in the second round of the Daily Mail Foursomes national competion. They played away at Copt Heath in April and won 4 & 3. A fantastic result. Their next game will be at Collingtree Park, the date is yet to be confirmed. Good luck to them both.
