The weather was dry and hot for the penultimate race in Rugby Kart Club's race calendar, held at the Whilton Mill circuit on Saturday.
Ten teams lined up on the grid in brand new Karts.
After the 20 minute qualifying session, Team Knight Brothers took pole position. Everyone followed the pace Kart for a rolling start. The green flag dropped and the 90 minute endurance race was underway. Knight Brothers held the early lead, closely followed by Avon Mill and Cawston Flyers.
Cawston lost two places early on and Team Jokerit and Whilton Seniors managed to tag onto the rear of the leading two teams. The midfield battle was as eventful as ever with White Van Men and Ham Racing pushing for a place at the front.
Team Jokerit were unlucky enough to seize one of their engines, in these brand new twin engine Pro-Karts. They had to pit and change Karts, forcing them to move down the order.
The race continued with teams swapping places continually as the manditory driver changes took place.
Team TCM driver Mark Robinson earned his team a black flag for forcing Cawston's Clark Cowell off the circuit at the high speed 'Crook' bend.
Bad luck struck as Team Knight Brothers ran out of fuel, gifting first place to Avon Mill, now followed by Cawston Flyers, White Van Men and Ham Racing. However with just two corners to go, the same problem forced Cawston Flyers to finish early as they too ran out of fuel.
The chequered flag waved and the race finished with Avon Mill taking the honours.
Final result: 1st Avon Mill, 2nd White Van Men, 3rd Ham Racing, 4th Cawston Flyers, 5th Jokerit, 6th Whilton Seniors, 7th TCM, 8th Knight Brothers, 9th Half Throttle & 10th Repsol Racers.
