Junior orienteers from all over Warwickshire and Coventry primary and secondary schools travelled to Hawley and Hornley near Farnborough, Hampshire this weekend to compete for their schools amongst over 1000 entrants in the British School Championshi

Individual successes for girls included Year 5 1st place for Ella-Rose McCartney from Hollyfast Primary School, Year 6 4th place for Heather Rogers, Park Hill Junior School, Year 7 2nd Penny Oliver and 3rd Aimee Morse from King Henry VIII School, Year 8 4th place Julie Emmerson Kenilworth School and Sports College, Year 12 1st place Sophie Kirk and 2nd Harriet Batten from King Henry VIII School.
Four boys earned 1st places Jamie Nicolson year 5, King Henry VIII School, Year 6 Harrison McCartney, Hollyfast Primary, Year 8 Hamish Rogers Kenilworth School and Sports College and Year 12 Matthew Halliday King Henry VIII School.
Prizes were awarded to year teams and year 6 girls team from King Henry VIII came 2nd, year 7 girls from King Henry VIII came 3rd and year 8 girls from Kenilworth School and Sports College came 2nd. In Year 10 the girls team from King Henry VIII came 3rd. Girls from Year 11 Kenilworth School and Sports College and Year 12 King Henry VIII performed well both taking a well deserved first place. Kenilworth School and Sports College boys team for year 9 received 3rd place.
Overall King Henry VIII Junior School came 2nd and King Henry VIII School also came 2nd in the Large Secondary School sector.

Juniors and seniors, novices and experienced orienteers are welcome to come along to the next two Saturday morning club events being held on 22nd November at Brueton Park, Solihull and on 29th November at Pooley Fields, Country Park, near Polesworth. Start times are from 10.30am – 12.00pm and there will be courses suitable for everyone, and coaching at Pooley Fields for juniors, just turn up, bring a compass if you have one.
