A large crowd had gathered at kineton rd for this fixture with the travelling side bringing a good crowd and the home side having the chairman's day. All was set for a good game and that it was unfortunately it was another defeat for southam.
Again
missing some key players it was always going to be a struggle against top of the league Dunlop.
Southam were again guilty of some silly mistakes and the first of these came straight from the kick off when lack of communication allowed them to score straight away.
Southam did pick their selves up after this and for long periods the game was played to a stalemate with both sides giving it there all; however Dunlop did find a way through for a good converted try. Southam then had some good play and were rewarded with a penalty kindly kicked by Roger Killick but again they allowed Dunlop through just before half time with another well worked try from a line out bringing the score at the break to 17-3
The second half was about getting amongst them again and spoiling everything for them and this is where Southam excelled as they worked tirelessly all half and didn't allow them to play and were unfortunate not to get a score back as Centre Pete Burnell clearly crossed the line for a try only for the ref to say it was short and penalise him for holding on. Southam then lost two men to the sin bin for silly mistakes and during this time allowed Dunlop to score a try.
Southam were again dominant in there play but unfortunately so was Dunlop's Defence and at the death Dunlop scored another try this being at the second attempt after the first was dropped on the line.
Southam should take a lot of positive things from this game as it is a great improvement on the previous weeks and apart from the two try's in the second half Dunlop never entered Southam's half of the pitch this being down to the grit and determination showed by all players.
