Classy Cossar steps onto the podium at Worcester
Rugby's Mark Cossar once again underlined his massive potential in motor sport by capturing third place in the second round of the Buildbase 1,000cc Sidecar Championship.
The 22-year old, with partner Andi Wilson, were about the only crew who could master the art of overtaking on what bizarrely turned out to be an almost too perfect racing strip brought about by days of continuous rain, followed by bright sunshine all day Sunday.
Cossar stormed from the starting gate in his opening ride to take the chequered flag in impressive style, and followed this with a second place on the very grippy Worcester circuit.
There was high drama next time out for the Rugby racer when he sped down the inside of Pete Lloyd. Andi Wilson was clipped by Lloyd's side wheel, but Cossar held on superbly to reach the bend ahead and take his second win.
As with all grasstrack and speedway riders, Cossar dug deep into one of the ruts at the starting gate to get a good getaway, but at the crucial moment, his machine jumped out of its position, ultimately keeping him back in fourth, but giving him an excellent third place overall, behind Rod Winterburn (second) and meeting winner Colin Blackbourne.
"I'd only just rebuilt my bike on Monday and Tuesday", said Cossar, "so I'm really pleased to have grabbed a place on the podium, especially as the track didn't allow for very much overtaking".
Cossar is in action again at the end of July when he competes in the National Best Pairs Championship in Cornwall.
