SPORT FOR THE DISABLED
More than 200 competitors enjoyed the 24th Rugby Sports Day for the Disabled at the Ken Marriott Leisure Centre last Sunday.
The event was organised by the Rotary Club of Rugby. The Major of Rugby Cllr Sue Peach, Rotary's District Governor John Quinton and the presidents of the two Rotary clubs of Rugby presented the prizes.
Sixteen clubs from various parts of the country and over 200 competitors took part. They competed in 29 events which included swimming, archery, bowls, table tennis and some field events.
Rugby Sport for the Disabled's Iris Bingham was outstanding in the archery scoring 360 out of 360. Daniel Blunn of Birmingham Meer Cats picked up eight awards including a number of firsts. The Ram Ravers from Nuneaton and Bedworth won 32 trophies between them.
The Brenda Carter Awards for making an outstanding effort were awarded to Felicity Swift of Acorns Club, Alan Hanley of Rushmoor Mallard Club, Heather Simmons of Club 2000 and Debbie Donally of the Enterprise Club. Also a number of Endeavor Awards were made to competitors who had tried very hard in a sport.
